Secondary glazing?

Has anyone had this fitted in their tenement? We already have fairly good double glazing but have heard additional secondary glazing is the way to go for noise reduction (flat on Duke St). Have tried a couple of places and have got mixed messages whether it is even possible with tilt and turn windows that open inwardly. I know there are different types from professionally fitted glass to DIY acrylic jobs but just wondered what other people's experiences were.

Hi Fiona.
Have you considered converting to triple glazing ? In my experience secondary glazing my be a issue with tilt and turns. Perhaps not in the tilt position but almost certainly will be in the 90 degree open position for cleaning purposes etc and more importantly fire escape regulations. This is a straight forward process which involves the removal of excisting double glazed units and replace with new triple glazed units. No mess involved. Cheers , Tony.

We did think about triple, yes, but have heard secondary on top of double is much more effective at noise reduction than triple. But there are the issues with cleaning and fire safety and although I think the measurements are workable to open tilt and turn through secondary due to depth of our sills and placement of existing frame and hinges I can't convince anyone to come out to take a look because of these concerns.

Hi, That's very unfortunate. I personally converted my mother's tenement flat and it's paid off well. Perhaps contact some company that specialises in the conservation market. Secondary glazing is something they tend to advertise. Good luck.
