litter

Is it just me or do the streets seem full of litter at the moment? particularly along cumbernauld rd, not sure if street cleaner not out so often, windy weather or kids being off school. Or combination. Looks terrible

i agree. duke street is even worse. i often see people of all ages just dropping litter without a second thought. i think there should be more bins, and also a heavy fine for dropping litter (which is actually enforced). i always keep litter in my hand or put it in my bag until i can deposit it properly. these people wouldn't do that in their house would they? perhaps some would!

It's a matter of how you bring your kids up, mine always used to come home from school with their pockets full of sweet wrappers etc. To this day they would never dream of littering the streets.

ive written to the council several times for extra litter bins. i get a nice reply saying they will fit them, then, nothing.if the bins are there, people will use them generally.

I've watched the kids coming out of the takeaways and throwing their paper bags and wrappers on the ground, I laughed at that other persons comment about having wrappers in their pockets i still do that to this day and try to teach my wee girl even though she is only 3 to not to throw litter on the ground but to put it in a bin, I do think there should be more bins in the street esp round these establishments who make a fortune from the scholars.

Some people will. Sadly, plenty of people won't use a bin even if it's only two or three steps away. I've seen it so many times with my own eyes. Adults and children. I used to get really angry about it, but now I just fume silently for a few moments before letting the moment pass.

There seems to be very little you can do to change the attitude of people who litter. I know they were doing spot fines in the City Centre not long ago but I've not heard much about that for a while. I wonder what their conclusions were about how effective the spot fine tactic is?
