people sleeping in the close Ive just had to have the police involved because of 2 people who decided to break into my close and sleep there over night. i didnt want to tackle it myself so called the GHA who advised me "it wasnt their concern" ...helpfull as ever?! so i called the police. turns out these 2 people had syringes with them, despite saying they had no sharps. Ive been complaining to the GHA about these doors for the 4years ive lived in my flat but they are just not interested. I know feel this was the final straw but i dont think they realised how serious it was...the 1st man i spoke to didnt even log my official complaint! ive know involved my local councillor but was wondering if anyone here knew of anything i could do to make the GHA listen, or am i on to a lost cause! Annoyed, contact your housing association, tell them your concerns, give them a reasonable amount of time to do something about it and if they don't, inform them, in writing, that you will withhold your rent until they do something about it.

Do they now have to repair the door? Or is it the residents who will have to food the bill?
I was told the safest doors to have are the ones that open outwards but can't do it if there are steps leading to the front door. You could get a joiner in to rehang the door going the other way, if GHA won't pay for it, speak to your neighbours and see if they'll all chip in.

Doors to closes are a fairly recent thing ,when I lived in Dennistoun there was no such thing.

I stay in Irongrey St and we always have a problem with this I don't think we have had anyone sleeping in the close yet, but have had junkies hitting up, people smoking weed and peeing and even pooing. constant graffiti and rubbish in the close youths hanging about drinking i have been to GHA the police my councillor and all to no avail I take a pride in my home but I am ashamed to invite friends here because of the state of my close. I hate living like this but don't see a way out, I have my name down for a move but have been told it could be years till I get one. the weans even put a brick in the door to jam it open to save them buzzing their parents up all day so there is no point in the controlled entry system. ):

By the sounds of it it appears to be a society in serious decline ,what went wrong?

"By the sounds of it it appears to be a society in serious decline ,what went wrong?"
Wasn't it Thatcher who said there is no such thing as society.
Today society has an I want, I want attitude. The majority in this area don't give a toss about what conditions they live in. If they need to pee, they do it where they're standing. If they need something material and they don't have it, they steal it.

Thatcher in Woman's Own, 23 years ago: "...and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society? There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then also to help look after our neighbour... There is no such thing as society. There is living tapestry of men and women and people and the beauty of that tapestry and the quality of our lives will depend upon how much each of us is prepared to take responsibility for ourselves and each of us prepared to turn round and help by our own efforts those who are unfortunate."

Sounds quite a lot like Cameron's Big Society to me.
But the failing is that it doesn't really account for the situation where the neighbour (or housing association) is an utter nuisance.
If you haven't already done this, my advice would be to repeatedly call London Road police on 0141 532 4600 in response to every single event. That's the short term response. But in the interests of the longer term, get things in writing. Keep a diary of what has happened and when. And after a while compile this information in a strongly worded (but fairly-balanced) summary letter to the GHA. If possible, get this countersigned by as many supportive fellow residents as possible. If you don't get a favourable response, reply expresing your dissatisfaction and Cc the letter to the 'boss' of the GHA, the MP and MSP for the area, and the local councillors. The important thing is to get everything in writing.

thanks for all your advise guys. id rather not give the street name out here as i worry about the wrong people reading this, which is bad i know but i know worry every time i leave my flat in case i come across something else.unfortunately i own my flat so dont have the option of with holding rent. i spoke to my councillor and fair enough she managed to get the gha to contact me. he gave me his direct number and said in the email to the councillor (she forwarded it on to me) that he'd get the local community police office to chat to me...this as of yet hasnt happened and still doesnt solve the problem that the door gets kicked in! the doors are secured by two magnets so not able to hang it the other way. i too am ashamed to have people round as the close is a state. i pay £30 a month to GHA but end up having to clean the close myself. im the only one in my block of flats who owns the flat so although the rest of the residents seem perfectly nice people, the dont have to pay for any repairs while i do! every time i complain about the door they send someone out to look at it, despite me telling them its not actually broken but just a rubbish door, and then i have to foot the bill! so infuriating!
